Monument “DenkOrt Deportationen 1941 – 1944”

In memory of the Jewish citizens of Miltenberg 1933 – 1945

They were humiliated, robbed, driven away and deported. 30 people who had lived in Miltenberg in 1939 were murdered by the Nazis.

Miltenberg is part of the decentralized memorial site “DenkOrt Deportationen 1941 – 1944”. It consists of suitcases, rucksacks or rolled-up blankets, commemorating the very few belongings the deportees were allowed to take with them, when they were hauled off to various concentration camps. One piece of luggage is in Würzburg and a precise copy is found the town from where our fellow Jewish citizens were deported.

This suitcase was made by Georg Büttner from local red bunter sandstone.

The historic photograph shows Mira Marx and Oskar Moritz from Miltenberg on the day they were hauled off.
