Nr. on the small map: 1 (Bürgstadt)
The Museum Bürgstadt is right next to the event location Bürgerzentrum Mittelmühle. Important documents and other exhibits regarding the rich history of the town of Bürgstadt are on display in the historic mill since 1995.
The concept of the exhibition was completely revised in 2023.
The ground floor is mainly dedicated to the subjects viniculture, sand stone quarrying and tobacco growing – all of them important trades of former times. An authentic Häckerstube (room for the seasonal wine taverns) from “olden days” is also on display and a popular place to finish a guided tour.
On the upper floor you can “time travel” through the millennia and centuries like through a huge storybook. The exhibits include prehistoric items dating back to the Urnfield Period and even the Neolithic Age. The Roman gallery presents interesting finds from the fort numerus in Bürgstadt, where the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes left the Main river to cross the mountains towards South, as can be seen on a relief of the landscape.
An audio guide will take you through the towns history century by century. Numerous pictures and exhibits witness of interesting chapters of Bürgstadt and the region.
Another exciting presentation is about “Guilds, Crafts and Trade”. It focuses on joinery and the furniture industry where hundreds of people from Bürgstadt and its surroundings made a living. A more recent theme covers “Flight, Expulsion and a New Beginning”. The gallery “Church, Art and Clergy” complements the history of Bürgstadt.
Changing temporary exhibitions present varying subjects of the history of the town and the organisations. Boring museum? Not here! Our youngest visitors can be photographed as a Roman legionary or a Baroque musician. During a scavenger hunt through the museum they can learn much about the local history and open a treasure chest at the end. The team of the museum offers guided tours for groups – to be booked with the local history society HGV Bürgstadt.
